During our residency in Wajima, we felt speechless gazing into the drying grotto of proto wooden bowls, being smoked and waiting for their final shapes and being lacquered (see picture). Our request was to finish them inside in the classic red while leaving the roughness of the skin.

This lacquered bowl in Japanese elm is made traditionally in the town of Wajima in Japan. Don't you love Frankenstein and Quasimodo more than the beautevil queen in Snow White?
